Softball Spring '11
The Game/Rules

Softball is a coed sport with a roster limit of 16 players - 8 males and 8 females. Games are played weeknights at 7:30 pm.

THE GAME

Games are supervised on a limited basis. There are no balls or strikes callled. The supervisor may make decisions on fair or foul balls...and may make out/safe calls if absolutely necessary. Understand what they are told..." Nothing is perfectly precise on the fields. No foul lines and the bases are painted (eventually worn) spots on the grass. It is a mistake to take a microscope and watch to see if players are missing the bases while running around them. Understand that normal plays to first base have a first baseman reaching with a toe that can feel no bag. If the ball beats the runner it's an out. Gross overthrows or off-line throws are different...safe. The point is not to be an overofficious nit picker." Again, that's what the officials are told and that's the attitude. Players should touch the bases and do all the right things...don't stretch the limits and thus encourage the officials to get technical. The honor system goes a long way in softball.

10 players on the field - 5 males & 5 females. The batting order alternates male/female. The entire roster can bat as long as the batting order alternates male/female.

9 players on the field is fine - a 5 to 4 ratio either way is fine. A 6 to 3 ratio with the 6 being males is illegal and constitutes a forfeit.

8 players is still legal. The absolute minimum number of females is 3.

7 players = forfeit.

Games = 7 innings

Mercy Rule = 12 run lead after the completion of 5 innings.

*No alcohol on or near the premises. A violation of this will result in removal from the league.
