FINDING ARTICLES
NOTE: Ariadne (the library catalog) DOES NOT
contain information about individual articles within journals.
A Periodical Index tells you who published what in a particular discipline or field. Use Periodical Indexes to find out what has been published on your topic.
1. Select and search a Periodical Index
2. Need some refreshers on How to Search? See the Advanced Searching Guide.
3. Once you've found the record to an article you want,
you have to find out where you can get it.
Record the journal title, article title, volume, issue, date, pages, etc.
Don't forget to check for the issue or year you need;
our Library or Western's Libraries may own the journal, but not the specific
issue or year you want.
- Does the Library own the journal in paper format? Search Ariadne for the journal title.
(not the title of the article)
If we own the journal in print and have the
issue you want, write down the call number and look for
the journal on the second floor.
- Does the Library have access to the journal online? Search Online
Journals at K for the Journal by Title to see if we have online access to the journal.
If we have access to the full text of the article you
want, congratulations!
If we don't have access to the Journal in paper format or online,
then you may request the article through Interlibrary Loan or visit Western's Libraries.
- Request the journal article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) using your ILLiad account.
~ OR ~
- Check WestCat (Western Michigan University's catalog). Search for the Journal Title
(not the title of the article!)
If Western owns the title and has the volume and issue
you want, congratulations!
