ADRIAN - The Kalamazoo College football team suffered a 58-31
loss at Adrian on Saturday. Adrian led 27-24 at halftime.
Kalamazoo turned the ball over in Adrian territory on its
first two possessions leading to a 13-0 advantage by the Bulldogs
early in the second quarter. After a big kickoff return by
Dimeko Price led to a Kalamazoo field goal, Adrian had turnover
problems of its own with Kalamazoo recovering fumbles on back-to-back
possessions. The Hornets scored touchdowns after both fumbles
and led 17-13. The teams alternated scores the rest of the
second quarter and Adrian took a 27-24 lead into halftime.
Adrian came out in the second half with three touchdowns
in the first 6:04 to take a 48-24 lead. A touchdown run by
Erran Briggs made it 48-31 late in the third quarter, but
an Adrian field goal and interception return for a touchdown
in the fourth quarter made the final, 58-31.
Kalamazoo turned the ball over six times in the game. Four
turnovers led to touchdowns while a fifth led to a field goal.
Both of Adrian's turnovers led to Kalamazoo touchdowns.
Nick Jones was 19-of-38 passing for 228 yards with two touchdowns
and six interceptions. Jones rushed for a touchdown and connected
with Jimmy Frye and John Jakubik on touchdown passes.
Frye had 71 yards on three catches. Cory McCain had four
catches for 52 yards. Aaron Rice had four catches for 39 yards.
Dimeko Price rushed for 58 yards on 14 carries.
Travis Braun made a 41-yard field goal early in the second
quarter, tying him for the most field goals (9) made in MIAA
games in a single season.
Adam Powers led the defense with 11 total tackles. Andy Herman
had 10 tackles. Ted Bealin had six tackles and a quarterback
sack.
Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 30 at Alma.
