Kalamazoo College Softball Coaching Staff

Kristen Smith
Director of Athletics

Kristen Smith, Kalamazoo College's Directof of Athletics, will oversee the softball operations during the search for a new head coach.

Smith has plenty of experience in intercollegiate softball, having joined Kalamazoo College in 1992 as an assistant coach and athletics trainer. Smith assisted for five seasons before taking over as head softball coach in 1997. She led the Hornets to consecutive third-place finishes in the MIAA. In 1997, Kalamazoo won its first two league tournament games, knocking off Adrian (2-1) and nationally-ranked Alma (1-0) to advance to the tournament quarterfinals for the first time in school history.

Smith stepped down from the head coaching positiong following the 1997 season to devote more time to the athletic training services. Smith returned to the softball team as an assistant for one season (2007) before becoming Kalamazoo's first full-time director of athletics that summer.

A Palos Heights, Ill. native, Smith earned her bachelor's degree from Hope College in 1988. She served as an assistant coach for the Flying Dutch women's basketball team for three seasons, including the 1989-90 NCAA Division III national championship team. Smith earned a master's degree in athletic training at Western Michigan University in 1992.


Kally Graham
Assistant Coach

Kally Graham joins Kalamazoo College as assistant softball coach for the 2008-09 season.  She will coach the pitchers and catchers and help with the infield. 

Graham graduated from Portage Central High School in 2003 and went on to play softball at Western Michigan University as a pitcher and first baseman. She graduated from WMU in June of 2008 with a degree in elementary education.

Graham has coached at Extra Innings Softball Training Academy in Kalamazoo for the past three years, working with pitchers of all ages.
